III: I'm going to my first WorldCon! My schedule in Reno is as follows:
Fri 12:00 - 12:30, Reading: Saladin Ahmed (Reading), A14 (RSCC)
Fri 16:00 - 17:00, F*** Your Knight and the Horse He Rode in on: Fantasy Series not Based on Medieval European Culture (Panel), A10 (RSCC) An irreverent panel where young writers challenge the predominance of medieval-inspired settings in fantasy. Christopher Kastensmidt (M), Saladin Ahmed, Aliette de Bodard, Ken Scholes
Sat 12:00 - 13:00, Meet the Campbell Award Nominees (Panel), A03 (RSCC) All of this year's Campbell Award nominees are at Worldcon. Here's your chance to see some of the field's best new writers. Seanan McGuire (M), Saladin Ahmed, Dan Wells, Larry Correia, Lev Grossman, Lauren Beukes
I'll also be at the Hugo/Campbell ceremony, likely brandishing my fake, Oscars-esque "The Other Guy/Gal Won" smile...
I think there's a difference between valid criticism of a flawed thing (which is pretty much all things) and just hating. I think most fans will take it in the spirit it's meant. And with that line-up, it can't help but be an awesome panel. =)
