(not really a) THRONE OF THE CRESCENT MOON preview!
SPOILERS!

Just kidding. This is the image that Wordle generated form the text of THRONE OF THE CRESCENT MOON. Pretty trippy. Slightly disturbing how much bigger 'man' is than 'woman,' but I think that's b/c the characters use the male gender to mean 'human' (e.g., 'the world of men'). Thanks to Martha Wells for introducing me to this word-toy.

Wordle is so much fun. I have some in my LJ profile for various novels because I didn't want to lose them.

"girl" and "boy" are larger than woman, too. That must have been some painful childbirth.

Yeah, I noticed that. It's because Adoulla (an old man) has the bulk of POV - and he calls everyone under 30 'girl' or 'boy.'

How very retro of them!

Interesting side note from a WaPo piece from 1917 ("Pretty Vassar Girl Keeps Own Name As Party to 'Individual Marriage'"), which I discovered via Jaime Lee Moyer: http://www.shorpy.com/node/6976#comment-75065. Check out the gendered pronouns:

"'I met Mr. Marsh a year ago at the Greenwich Settlement House,' said she. 'Neither of us wanted to impose his belief on the other. We agreed in purpose, though. We decided on our mode of living, because we knew it would make us happier; all the more because each has his own work.'"

Wordles are awesome. (And too full of time-wasting potential, I have found *cough*)
